- Abstract
An essay is presented which discusses the murals painted Lewis R. Rubenstein beginning 1935 at the Germanic Museum at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The essay discusses Richard Wagner's "Der Ring des Niebelungen" operas as the inspiration for the murals, the appearance of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler and World War I gas masks in Rubenstein's murals and the work of Mexican muralist Diego Rivera, who also used his art to criticize Hitler.
