- Abstract
We have studied the magnetic properties of transition metal intercalated niobium dichalcogenides CoNb 3 S 6 , NiNb 3 S 6 and CuNb 3 S 6 , which are synthesized by a chemical vapor transport (CVT) method using TeBr 4 as transport agent in a horizontal two-zone tube furnace. CoNb 3 S 6 and NiNb 3 S 6 order antiferromagnetically below 30(2) K and 44(3) K, respectively. At high temperatures, the magnetic susceptibility is well described by the Curie-Weiss law and the deduced effective magnetic moments are 4.6(1) μ B /Co for CoNb 3 S 6 and 2.6(6) μ B /Ni for NiNb 3 S 6 . In the case of CuNb 3 S 6 , no magnetic phase transition is observed from 2 to 300 K.
