- Abstract
The essay examines the effects of social welfare developments on the social conditions of women and the organization of families in Spain. More specifically, the author explains the ways in which women managed the state-sponsored welfare they received in a way beneficial to their families. The author opens by discussing Spanish charities and the legal implementation of public welfare in the 19th century.
