- Abstract
This paper presents the optimization of antennas for the collision-avoidance radar system of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). Geometric parameters and radiation patterns are compared among horn, parabolic, cassegrain, and offset-cassegrain antennas. Based on the sidelobe levels of the calculated radiation patterns and sizes, the parabolic antenna shows the best results: a sidelobe of less than -30 dB and gain of 37 dBi with a focal length of 21.3 cm and a diameter of 26 cm. This research is explored for the first time to the authors' knowledge and the should be useful in the UAV. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
