- Abstract
Objective: to know the prevalence of pressure ulcers and risk factors. Method: a descriptive study, in which use secondary data, developed in the city of João Pessoa, Brazil. Data were extracted from the Report << Needs in home care in primary from João Pessoa >>. Because it is a survey of secondary data, followed the following steps to collect the information: 1) Sending a letter requesting permission to use the data service, explaining the objectives of the study, 2) Selection of data after the written consent of the Board of Health Care of the Municipal Health João Pessoa, by completing an instrument developed by the researchers. The variables: age, gender, medical conditions, activity level, use of diaper prevalence of UPP, UPP staging and presence of home caregiver. The data were statistically analyzed and presented in tables, using frequency distribution. This study followed the provisions of Resolution 196/96 of the National Health Council Results: 70% of the sample had 60 years or more, and 60% were women. It was found that the clinical conditions of the users who needed home care imply significant risk factors for the development of the UPP or aggravation of these lesions, especially in the elderly. Showed a prevalence of 10% UPP. Conclusion: it is necessary that the teams working in the Family Health Strategy establish preventive actions, involving the caregiver, and provide continuity of care of those who need home care through the National Health System.
