The article focuses on an increased diagnosis of syphilis infection and HIV coinfection among men who have sex with men (MSM). It reports that the rates of primary and secondary (P and S) syphilis had increased from 3.0 to 8.2 percent in the year 2011. It states that the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has requested assistance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to improve the selection and delivery of syphilis and HIV prevention interventions.
