- Authors
HEATH, SARAH E.
- Abstract
The article highlights the recreation for women and children in Chicago, Illinois between 1945-1960. It recounts that recreation organizers have hoped to address the staple of urban reforms and to provide activities that will steer young children away from delinquent tendencies. It adds that organizers collaborated at the forefront of the changes that would later benefit racial minorities and women. The incorporation of athletics as a form of recreation and the organization of camps that aims to help children escape from the unsavory environment of the society are also emphasized.
