- Abstract
Advancements in drug-delivery systems provide veterinarians with diversified options for disease prevention and treatment. Controlled release systems are also available for companion animals, including medications for parasite control.1 Microcarrier-controlled drug release technology allows for the incorporation of a drug of interest with biodegradable substances to form a microencapsulated structure. Controlled release drug-delivery systems have been available for veterinary use for over 30 years, with early formulations largely targeted toward herd animal medicine, including methods for estrous regulation and ectoparasite control.
