- Abstract
The article questions the approval of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on reducing the non-Bacillus thuringiensis toxin (Bt) crop refuge size down to 5% for pyramided Bt corn citing lack of evidence. It mentions the high dose-refuge approach for delaying the evolution of pest resistance to Bt plants and results of studies on pyramided plants as a technique for resistance management. It also notes reliance on mathematical models for the prediction of the rate of insect adaptation to transgenic plants.
