Aotea College: Creating a community of learners in a Sport Studies class.
- Abstract
The article focuses on how sport contexts and the team environment of an integrated Sport Studies class were utilized to enhance engagement and achievement for Year 11 Maori and Pasifika students in Aotea College in Porirua, New Zealand. Topics discussed include the aim of providing sport-contextualized teaching and learning program for Year 11 students perceived to be at risk of not gaining Level 1 literacy, noted increase in student confidence, and emphasis on gender balance.
