- Abstract
The article explores the role of working-class women within women's suffrage movements. Particular focus is given to the suffrage movement in Great Britain. The relationships between economic development, class, and ideology within the suffrage movement are examined and obstacles to widespread political action are discussed. Political and cultural patterns connected with poverty, the development of trade unionism among women workers, and the involvement of middle-class women in promoting the representation of working-class women within trade unions are examined and the work of working-class suffragists including Annie Kenney is explored.
