- Abstract
This letter discusses the impact of previous body-contouring surgeries, such as abdominoplasty and reduction mammoplasty, on bariatric surgery for morbidly obese patients. The authors note that while a history of these procedures is not a contraindication for bariatric surgery, it can present challenges during the procedure. The volume of tissue removed in body-contouring surgeries varies, and the authors suggest adjusting the BMI calculation for patients who have undergone these procedures. They also propose considering the amount of tissue removed when determining the length of limbs for gastric bypass surgery. The authors acknowledge the need for further research on this topic.
