- Abstract
More specifically, the prevalence of MetS is higher in I H. pylori i -positive patients [[11]], and I H. pylori i -associated MetS is a risk factor for GERD, so its eradication may be advantageous against GERD in certain populations [[12]]. Dear Editor, Abeid et al. [[1]] concluded that preoperative I Helicobacter pylori i ( I H. pylori i ) eradication does not affect the early outcomes of sleeve gastrectomy (SG); therefore, routine baseline I H. pylori i screening is unnecessary, and its eradication may be considered at post-SG period. In this regard, some data indicate that MetS-related bariatric patients with I H. pylori i infection might be vulnerable to the development of GERD [[17]] and the accompanying early- and long-term respiratory complications, thereby implying a potential benefit of I H. pylori i eradication.
