- Title
Advancing Human Rights and the Prospect for Democracy in North Korea.
- Authors
Gershman, Carl
- Abstract
The article makes predictions that North Korea will be forced to submit to a democratic system within a generation. As other Asian countries, including Taiwan, China, and Singapore begin to make steps toward adopting a democratic government, the article argues that North Korea must also consider democracy, and possibly reunify with South Korea. Topics discussed include the work that U.S. organization the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) has done to spread democracy throughout East Asia, campaigns in the totalitarian regime in North Korea to advance human rights, and how technological innovations like USB flash drives and the website Wikipedia are opening North Korea up to the rest of the world.
