- Title
Liver disease in women: Examining prevalence and complications.
- Authors

- Abstract
Liver disease and liver cirrhosis continue to be a growing problem in the UK, with a 45% increase in incidence and 68% increase in prevalence of cirrhosis (Fleming et al, 2008). This increase has been attributed to an increase in alcohol consumption, viral hepatitis, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease linked to obesity. While liver disease affects both genders, the increase of liver disease in women is a growing concern, as certain liver diseases are more prominent in women or are related specifically to pregnancy. In this article, Suzanne Sargent and Michelle Clayton provide an overview of liver disease in women.
