- Abstract
The objective of the present study was to explore the emotions that emerge during treatment of HIV/AIDS patients and their effects on pharmacological adherence. The study's method included qualitative analyses on the relevant variables by means of semi-structured interviews with eight patients of a hospital at Medellin (Colombia). The most relevant results revealed that treatment adherence is a protective factor for quality of life, which involves multidimensional aspects. These facets range from subjective emotions to psychosocial conditions, which in turn allow for personal stability. In conclusion, adherence to treatment is a fundamental factor in HIV/AIDS treatment, through the appropriate use of antiretrovirals, but also the integral management of the person in the health services.
