- Abstract
The article discusses the interrelationship between independence of bar and the normative content and foundations of the lawyers' role in discharging their duty in Canada. It analyzes three specific issues with respect to the regulation of lawyers in Canada which includes ensuring lawyer competence, institutional reform and access to justice. It informs that the independence of bar include both freedom from state interference and fulfillment of lawyer's legal and ethical duties.
