- Title
The Patina of the Past: Meditations on Memory and Home.
- Authors
Brewer, Talbot
- Abstract
The author reflects on the concepts of memory and home in this essay. He argues that having a memory is not always a function of brain states considered in isolation from the surrounding world if it required a true potentiality for conscious recollection. The author's vivid recollection of his childhood experiences in his hometown in Florida is discussed. He also discusses the two categories in which the memory-free zones fall. The tendency of the expatriated Floridian's life to reverse the normal chronology of the Florida experience is described.
