- Abstract
The article discusses the psychoanalytic theory of learning. There has been no formulation of a psychoanalytic theory of learning as yet. Broadly understood, psychoanalysis is the newest theory for understanding and modifying human behavior. But it has failed to enrich itself with the insights of education and education has not asked the right questions of psychoanalysis. Some points important to psychoanalysis are to identify who the learner is. This includes the matters of capacity of all types, the objectives as well as the nature of subject matter, whether understandings, skills, habits and attitudes can be learnt or not, are the conditions of learning good or not, the kinds of interactions that occur in the group situation, considerations about teachers' capacities, sex, attitudes, skills, adjustment, social class and classroom skills, is the material presented in the form of lecture, textbook or in a discussion mode. Human learning is influenced by a variety of rewards which are themselves arranged in a culturally based reward-punishment system which is learned.
