On syncope of u-vocalism in Sabellic.

- Abstract
Whereas the Proto-Italic mid and low vowels */e, a, o/ were targeted by syncope in Sabellic, the high back vowel */u/ has often been thought to be retained. This paper is devoted to examining whether such a view is founded on secure examples. Our investigation shows, first, that forms alleged to support u-retention are uncertain or dubious; and second, that there are two forms that may illustrate u-syncope.
