- Abstract
The article discusses the history and maintenance of marriage records kept by the Catholic Church over the last thousand years. The author explains that such records were historically kept in the Scrinium Sanctae Romanae, and outlines current canon legislation which dictates that every parish is required to keep books of records of baptisms and marriages. The format and organization of these books is described, as well the status and composition of the marriage certificates themselves as authentic documents.
