- Abstract
The article presents a study on appropriate selection of strong ground motion records (SGMRs) for the examination of seismic collapse capacity of a structural system in an earthquake engineering. It notes that multivariate statistical analysis is utilized to identify the level of similarity between the small subset and the general set of SGMRs and principal component analysis is used to determine the effective way to classify structures. The result of the analysis indicates that the proposed subsets with less dispersion can be used for the prediction of the mean seismic collapse capacity than the improved approach developed based on scaling the record's response spectra.
