- Abstract
The article "Guidelines and Guardrails for Fall Prevention" discusses the importance of fall prevention in older people. On September 30, 2022, the world's first valid guidelines for fall prevention were presented, on which almost 100 experts from different countries have worked for over 2 years. It is emphasized that the guidelines should also be evaluated and adapted in German-speaking countries. Geriatric traumatology deals with patient safety and prolonging the length of stay in hospital after falls. The Scientific Professional Associations (WFG) have expanded the indication for a Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) to examine all patients with frailty and patients who cannot get up on their own after a fall. The need to further develop preventive interventions and improve the effectiveness of fall prevention measures is emphasized. Perturbation training and the Life-Integrated Functional Exercise (LiFE) program are mentioned as promising approaches. Two major conferences on fall prevention will take place in the coming months.
