- Abstract
Recreational activities and social interaction can favor abstinence maintenance by competing with the use of psychoactive substances. The Daily Satisfaction Program includes the component called Social Club, for which an intervention protocol has been developed in this study. The Social Club (SC) is a group intervention whose objective is to promote learning to enjoy interacting with others as an alternative to drug use. The aim of this study is to measure the impact of the SC intervention on the acquisition of social skills to prevent relapses. Five participants were included in a non-probabilistic convenience sampling. The proposed SC intervention design includes 13 sessions with a weekly frequency. The Social Skills Scale and the Relapse Prevention Skills Perception questionnaire, both report significant changes for initiating positive interactions and in the perception of increased social skills, such as assertive communication, social interaction, staying free of drug use and relapse prevention. The results provide evidence on the efficiency of SC by increasing social skills that help in the prevention relapses. To generalize the results of the SC, it is suggested for future interventions to consider a larger sample and consider that each group may have different training needs in social skills.
