- Abstract
Although big data and SMEs are popular concepts, there is a limited number of studies on the use of big data in SMEs. In this study, research has been done on the usability of big data analysis in the marketing activities of SMEs and the content of the projects in which big data analysis-based information is provided to SMEs by two institutions in Turkey has been examined. While contributing to the literature, it is aimed to increase the awareness and knowledge level of practitioners with case studies that they can benefit from. It is an exploratory study based on revealing concepts and findings by literature review and evaluating two platform examples as case studies on the official websites of institutions. SMEs will benefit significantly from the development of structures that provide big data analysis services to SMEs. The fact that the concept of big data has not been addressed in the marketing activities of SMEs in the Turkish literature and there are no studies on the usability of publicly funded big data projects by SMEs constitute the originality of this study. Qualitative and quantitative research on the strengths and weaknesses of the implementation of big data in SMEs, which will be conducted in future studies, will contribute to the literature, practitioners and relevant policy makers.
