In Proslogion 9-11 Anselm discusses the relationship between mercy and justice. There is no precedent for that discussion in the Monologion, yet the discussion anticipates the issues that are raised in Cur Deus Homo. In this paper I crystallize the position Anselm takes in those chapters and offer thoughts as to how that position might contribute to discussions of the problem of evil.
