- Abstract
In this paper I analyze the television broadcasting of the tribute made to the Uruguayan football team for being among the top four in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, an event that was the symbolic starting point for the reconciliation of Uruguayan society with its football team, whose effects last until the present time. This analysis is based on the theoretical perspective of Dayan and Katz (1995/1992) around the "media events". I also inquire about the myths of the Uruguayan social imaginary staged in this media event. In this way, from the analysis of this secondary audiovisual document, I conclude that it effectively has all the characteristics of "media events", as well as the myths "of consensus" and "from a country of educated citizens" can be identified in it, as well as the miths "from the Maracaná" and the "garra charrúa", thus combining politics and football as fundamental religious expressions of contemporary Uruguayan.
