- Abstract
The article presents a critical analysis of the television program and book series "The Vampire Diaries." Introductory details are given describing the unique characteristics of the series in both media forms, highlighting its creation under a series of authors led by its publishing house and the direct plot and characterization divergences seen between the book and television versions. The series' conventions as a collection of romance-adventure tales are examined. The postmodern elements of the series are also highlighted, including overt references to other vampire tropes, self-conscious and self-referential humor, and the promotion of a postmodern lifestyle where identity markers are not strictly adhered to or defined.
