- Abstract
German car manufacturers such as VW, Daimler, Porsche, and BMW are not only investing in electromobility but also in other measures for sustainable mobility. They rely on the use of green electricity, process optimizations, and recycled materials to reduce their CO2 emissions. BMW plans to bring more than 7 million electrified vehicles onto the roads by 2030 and reduce CO2 emissions in their supplier network by 20 percent. They intend to source steel produced with hydrogen and green electricity starting in 2025 and have entered into long-term supply contracts for battery cells and CO2-free steel production. However, the transition to green technologies requires high investments.
