The article focuses on death and sacrifice in Franco-Prussian War and dispute over the candidacy of the Prussian Hohenzollern dynasty to the Spanish throne in July 1870, the war saw the French emperor Napoleon III. It mentions weaponry produced by industrialisation and technological innovation and French government overplayed its hand in the dispute over the Spanish throne. It also mentions volunteers inspired by republican internationalism rallied to the command of Giuseppe Garibaldi.
