- Abstract
The article presents an abstract from the book "Celebrating the Lives of Jewish Women," edited by R.J. Siegel and E. Cole. The article informs that this book provides a sampling of contemporary personal perspectives as lived and perceived by the U.S. and Canadian Jewish women of all ages, sexual orientations and levels of religious observance. Each chapter is written in the first person, offering individual and unique perspectives. In the first section, "From Generation to Generation: The Meanings of Mishpacha--Family," seven women disclosed their thoughts and struggles in blending their personal Jewish selves within their family contexts. These blends include the story of a lesbian woman and her approach to Jewish family values. The article states that this is a very personal, yet inclusive book. It weaves together Jewish history and external experiences with individual meanings and needs. It describes the role of religion in the stones of contemporary Jewish women' s lives. This book can be used as examples and role models for other Jews, both women and men.
