- Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Dysmenorrhoea is defined as painful menstruation of sufficient magnitude so as to incapacitate day-to-day activities. Up to 15% of adolescents have period pains, severe enough to interfere with their daily activities. AIM: The study aimed to assess the effectiveness of mint leaves paste on dysmenorrhea among adolescents in selected schools of district Faridkot, Punjab. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A quasi experimental research approach was adopted to conduct the present study. A total of 60 adolescent girls were selected by convenient sampling. The socio demographic data was collected by self administered questionnaire. Screening of subjects was done using verbal multidimensional scoring system and assessment of pain was done with Numeric rating scale. RESULTS: The administration of mint leaves paste was effective in reducing dysmenorrhea as there were reduced mean levels of pain after the intervention. However the effect was more marked on first day of menstruation as pain reduces physiologically on second and third day of menstruation. CONCLUSION: It is concluded that the administration of mint leaves paste is effective in reducing dysmenorrhea.
