- Abstract
The article discusses the importance of employee retention and personnel management in organizations. The retention of high-performing employees is cited as a high-priority business objective, as proven by a tighter labor market and the increased cost of replacing workers. The author mentions the casual dining segment of the restaurant industry as proof. The performance of a restaurant's employees contributes significantly to the total experience of its patrons. A customer's decision to frequent a restaurant or deliver a positive review of it is often decide by the capability, spirit, and pride of their servers. Executives at Darden Restaurants Inc. note several direct links in a causal chain which can lead to real growth in profit and sales.
