- Abstract
It has been a common tendency to describe the human settlements with their natural, old and new settings, and this is usually done quantitatively. Because of this, the changes and transformations in these settings have been explained with indicators based mostly on the quantities of entities. This approach, however, leads to considerable errors. For instance, the changes and the transformations in the specific identities of settlements are either not recognised or not attributed enough importance while at times only some prominent ones are discussed. Yet, all habitats change and transform within the totality of an ecosystem. Therefore, the identities of settlements can only be truly defined when this reality is taken into consideration. However, this necessity is often not observed. The richness that produces the originality of cities which have unique natural, historical, cultural, economic characteristics is quite easily ignored. What happened in Bursa only in 2000s is enough to demonstrate this reality.
