This article presents a literary critique of the 18th-century English novel "Clarissa," by Samuel Richardson, focusing on the themes of political theology, modernity, and death. Additional topics addressed include the literary structure of the epistolary novel and its thematic significance, the depiction of Clarissa as a morally exemplary monastic figure, and the novel's socio-religious context of the 18th century.
