- Abstract
Objective: The aim of the present article is to highlight and explore the relevance of the symbolic concept of the seven deadly sins in the passage of Cain and Abel as well as in contemporary mankind. Development: By demonstrating that the sins of envy, greed, gluttony, lust, wrath, sloth and pride are present in the tale of the first fratricide, according to the Book of Genesis, we develop a reinterpretation of the concept of original sin. Conclusion: In addition to biblical sources, such reinterpretation is based upon literary texts and some of Freud's studies.
