- Title
Concept and Unintended Consequences of Weather Index Insurance: The Case of Mexico.
- Authors
Fuchs, Alan; Wolff, Hendrik
- Abstract
The article offers the authors' insights regarding the weather index insurance (WII) program in Mexico, which is one of the largest in the world. The authors state that the WII makes disincentives to invest in non-insured crops that leads to overspecialization and monoculture. Furthermore , they suggest that the threshold of WII be recalibrated to adjust for the creation of drought-resistant seeds.
