- Abstract
Optical barriers and curtains for dimensional measurements have gained a significant momentum in industrial applications where the shape, size or features of objects are important parameters. These applications, starting from the simple detection of an object on a conveyor belt up to systems that assess difficult shapes, imperfections or extremely small objects require fast, cost-effective and accurate measurements. This paper explores the current measurement systems that include single-dimension optical barriers with synchronization channels and proposes a design and implementation of an asynchronous bidimensional optical curtain capable of detecting an object's dimensions in various environments with sufficient electrical and optical immunity and where parameters such as the speed of the object in front of the sensor matrices no longer represents a requirement.
