- Abstract
The article discusses the presence and roles of Poles in the English colony of Jamestown, Virginia. According to the article, the Poles were skilled artisans and craftsmen and were likely brought to the colony to perform skilled labor and to train colonists in skilled work. The relationship between the Poles and a group of people identified as Dutchmen by the records of colonists such as John Smith is also explored. Details are also provided about the performance of these Dutchmen and about the mining, glass-making, and lumbering operations at Jamestown.
