- Abstract
The article discusses the circulation of trade cards within 18th-century consumer and collecting cultures. Particular focus is given to British, French, and American trade cards. According to the author, these objects were not viewed merely as ephemera but as artworks and products associated with private economic exchanges. Details on the uses of trade cards as bills and receipts are presented. Other topics include memory and the conception of shopping as a leisure activity.
