- Abstract
Antecedentes: La historia evolutiva de la biodiversidad de Suramérica ha sido pobremente explorada en el bosque seco tropical comparado con otras regiones, especialmente la de los artrópodos. Entender los patrones de diversificación en estos hábitats es importante en taxones que pueden tener relevancia epidemiológica. Objetivos: Evaluar el número de linajes genéticos de Psammolestes y explorar la relevancia del conservatismo de nicho en su diversificación. Materiales y métodos: Se emplearon métodos filogenéticos, de genética de poblaciones y de modelado de nicho. Resultados: El análisis multilocus demostró P. coreodes y P. tertius en un clado monofilético hermano de P. arthuri, y los análisis de delimitación de especies recuperaron estos linajes como especies diferentes a pesar de su variación genética compartida, sin flujo genético. Además, el modelo demográfico predijo un escenario de divergencia en ausencia de flujo genético. Se detectó que la cuenca del Amazonas constituye una barrera climática que separa las especies tropicales (P. arthuri) de las especies de climas subtropicales-templados (P. coreodes y P. tertius). Esta barrera geográfica, además, promueve la especiación alopátrica luego de dispersión a grandes distancias. El análisis de nicho mostró que cada una de estas especies ocupa un nicho climático distinto, lo cual sugiere que la conservación del nicho no es relevante en la diferenciación de las especies. Conclusiones: Este estudio constituye uno de los primeros intentos enfocados a entender el patrón de diversificación en insectos con capacidad vectorial distribuidos en el bosque seco tropical, específicamente, aquellos para la enfermedad de Chagas. Los resultados del estudio pueden influir en los programas de control vectorial actuales enfocados en la enfermedad de Chagas en la región.
