- Abstract
The article presents information on the use of deaccession by the museums for removing qualified object from the collection records of museums and disposing objects through sale or auction. The issues related to financial crisis and legislative reform that affected museums and the risks related to condemnation and lawsuits is discussed. The deaccession policies based on financial necessity and the drastic measures taken by the museums for survival are considered. The different types of legal entities formed by the museums and the two-tiered fiduciary standards used for protecting public interest and deaccession decisions are also discussed.
