- Abstract
The article draws upon board and meal deduction correspondence to provide context for a unique form of civil protest the Colored Trainmen of America (CTA) labor union members used to challenge segregated public spaces. It mentions how during the Jim Crow era the African American railroad workers of the CTA effectively used company issued board and meal deduction privileges to negotiate better treatment.
