- Title
Performing Exile in Safed School Kabbalah.
- Authors
SEGOL, MARLA
- Abstract
The article examines the transformation of the human body in 16th-century Safed school kabbalistic ritual practice. The author uses a performance studies methodology to focus on the practices described in Moshe Cordovero's "Tomer Devorah" and "Sefer Gerushin," and Yosef Caro's "Maggid Mesharim." The author notes that Safed school rituals are unique in kabbalistic praxis because they aim to transform the body into a venue for and a performer of the cosmic drama of redemption from exile.
