The author comments on the study which describes self-reported insurance status and utilization of certain care services among U.S. community-dwelling adults who reported involvement in the criminal justice system. Topics discussed include the effects of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) on the insurance status of U.S. citizens., the high rate of uninsured among justice-involved individuals, and the high insurance claims from mental health and substance use disorder treatment insured groups.
