The article comments on the global eradication of smallpox and dracunculasis. Scientists and clinicians are recognized for developing a vaccine against smallpox that led to its eradication. Researchers have continued to study parasites such as Dracunculus medinensis and Schistosoma mansoni in order to understand endosymbiotic relationships in organisms.
