- Abstract
This research focused on analyzing late executive functions in 11th grade students from official high schools of Envigado, Antioquia and Cúcuta, North of Santander. A descriptivecomparative, cross-sectional and non-experimental study was developed. A total of 464 students were selected by quota sampling and BANFE-2 was applied to all of them. The association between variables was determined by chi-square test, while the position and shape of the scores was compared through Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests. In the verbal fluency subtest, the highest performance was found in Envigado students (p = 0.009) and in adolescents reporting having a father with high academic degree (p = 0.001). Concerning metamemory, women had less capacity than men (p = 0.048), while left-handed students exhibited greater capacity (p = 0.048) than right-handed. The highest scores in abstract categories were obtained by men (p = 0.007), as well as students with a higher academic level mothers (p = 0.049). It is concluded that the development of late executive functions can be influenced by the social and educational context in which the adolescent is, and by conditions such as parent's schooling and sex.
