- Abstract
A letter published in the Neurosurgical Review discusses a study comparing two methods of decompressive hemicraniectomy (DHC) and their impact on estimated blood loss (EBL). The study found that the reverse question mark (RQM) scalp incision resulted in a statistically significant reduction in EBL compared to other methods. However, the authors suggest that further analysis is needed to determine if the evidence presented is sufficient. They conducted a trial sequential analysis (TSA) and found that the included trials did not meet the required information size, indicating a lack of power to confidently exclude the possibility of a type 2 error. The authors conclude that more large, high-quality, randomized trials are needed to evaluate the clinical efficacy of the RQM incision method.
