- Abstract
The article focuses on developments in textile inkjet printing market. Todays' textile inkjet printing market is still extremely small, amounting to around 1% of the market and generally confined to the pre-print sample areas and a number of markets such as the flag/banner market, sportswear and niche printed fashion articles. However, the market continues to grow. Based on information from BASF AG market studies. it is estimated that textile inkjet printing will achieve significant market penetration over the next 10 years with developments in both hardware and ink and pretreatment chemistry. This growth is due to innovations within the industry that both improve the technology and make it easier to adopt. There are companies that are working to streamline the pretreating stage of the printing process. Rimslow Pty. Ltd. hopes to revolutionize the digital inkjet printing industry by providing the missing link with their Steam-X that will allow for the continuous inkjet printing and curing of fabrics. The Steam-X cures fabrics printed with any type of printing dyes, including acid, disperse and reactive dyes and can be used with any digital inkjet printer available. The Dream digital textile printing machine by Reggiani Macchine SpA is one of the most well-respected machines in the business. It increases printing speed more than 10-fold. According to Reggiani, the Dream meets the growing need in the fashion industry for medium run and faster times market. DuPont also demonstrated its unique DuPont Artistri pigment ink for digital textile printing. Specifically designed for short-to-medium production runs on cotton and cotton/polyester blends, the aqueous-based ink does not require fabric pretreatment and yields full production quality crockfastness upon drying.
