- Abstract
A biography of Max Littman, an immigrant soldier who arrived in New York from Berlin, Germany in late 1865 or early 1866, is presented. He enlisted in the U.S. army on March 20, 1866 and was promoted to sergeant in early 1867. He was discharged in 1869 and decided to return to Saint Louis, Missouri where he became a highly successful businessman. Littman was one of the founders of Temple Israel and was president of the Nixdorff-Krein Manufacturing Co. at the time of his death.
